Effective date: September 2, 2026
This policy describes the current version of the app, which does not include third-party advertising, analytics SDKs, or an app account system.
1. Operator and scope
This policy applies to the Universal Reader iOS app and the website used to provide product information, support, and privacy information.
Operator: Chen Yong
Product brand: Universal Reader
Contact: support@commonreader.xyz
2. Data we do not actively collect
The current app does not require an account and does not actively collect or build profiles containing:
- your name, telephone number, contacts, or precise location;
- advertising identifiers, cross-app tracking data, or third-party analytics data;
- a cloud account history of your reading content, titles, reading progress, or translations;
- your card number, payment password, or complete payment credentials.
The app does not use tracking domains, and its current privacy manifest declares no collected data types. If the app later adds advertising, analytics, accounts, cloud sync, or server-side translation, this policy and the App Store privacy disclosures will be updated before that functionality is released.
3. Files, reading progress, and translation cache
When you choose a file or folder through the system file picker, the share sheet, or an import entry in the app, the app accesses only the content that you select. Imported comics, novels, PDFs, page images, catalogs, reading progress, settings, and translation caches are primarily stored in the app sandbox or application-support storage on your device.
The app does not automatically upload your imported or read content to our own server. When you delete a work, the app attempts to remove its local files, progress, and associated caches. Uninstalling the app normally removes data in the app sandbox according to iOS behavior.
4. On-device OCR and translation
Comics and image-based PDFs can use Apple Vision for text recognition. Text can use Apple Translation capabilities for on-device translation. The app does not send your source text, translated text, or page images to our own server.
The first use of a language pair may require iOS to download or prepare a system language model. Availability of language models, system services, and related processing is subject to Apple's terms and privacy policy.
To avoid repeated work, the app may save translation results locally using the work, page, source language, target language, and translation version. You can remove these local results by deleting the work or clearing the app's local data.
5. URLs that you submit
If you enter a comic web URL or file URL, the app may use a network request or web view to access that URL, read available titles, image links, and file data, and save successfully downloaded content on your device.
This access connects to the third-party website that you submit. That website may process your IP address, device information, access time, or other network logs under its own privacy policy. Those records are controlled by the third party and are not collected by the app. Submit only content that you have the right to access and use.
The app does not guarantee that every website can be parsed, and it does not bypass logins, paywalls, or access controls.
6. Basic website access logs
The pages used for product information, support, and this policy may be hosted by a third-party hosting provider or CDN. The host may create basic server logs for security, troubleshooting, and normal delivery, such as IP address, request time, browser type, and request path. Those logs are handled by the hosting provider under its own terms and privacy policy. The app does not read these website logs or use them to build a user profile.
7. Face ID and the private shelf
If you enable the private shelf, the app can call iOS LocalAuthentication to request Face ID or device passcode verification. Biometric data is processed by the iOS secure system; the app does not read or store your biometric data and cannot access your Face ID features.
8. In-app purchases
Pro is a one-time non-consumable purchase made through the Apple App Store using StoreKit. Apple handles payment, refunds, and purchase restoration. The app receives transaction results needed to determine entitlement and does not receive your card number or complete payment information.
Purchase records associated with your Apple Account can be used to restore Pro access. Apple's terms and privacy policy apply to that processing.
9. Retention and deletion
- Local files, reading progress, settings, and translation caches remain on the device until you delete the work, clear local data, or uninstall the app.
- Apple retains App Store purchase records under Apple's policies. Deleting the app does not delete your purchase history.
- We do not operate a cloud account system for storing your reading content or translation history.
10. Children's privacy
The app is not designed to collect children's personal information and does not build interest profiles or serve interest-based advertising. Parents and guardians should make their own determination, consistent with local law, about file importing, web access, and in-app purchases.
11. Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices, third-party services, or business model materially change, we will update this page and its effective date where appropriate. Your continued use of the updated app or website means that you have reviewed the updated policy.
12. Contact
If you have a privacy question or want more information about local data processing, contact support@commonreader.xyz.
